Retirement of Legacy Upgrade Files (Versions Before 7.6)

Post by 1kiwi1 »

📢 Notice: Retirement of Legacy Upgrade Files (Versions Before 7.6)

Dear GeoCoreMax Users,

As part of our ongoing work to modernise and streamline the GeoCoreMax Classifieds and Auctions Platform, we will be retiring a group of very old upgrade files that date back to the original GeoClassifieds and GeoAuctions systems. These files were designed to migrate installations from software versions prior to 7.6, which are now considered fully obsolete.

Since the release of the unified GeoCore platform, all current installations already include every database and structure update introduced in those early versions. The upgrade system in GeoCoreMax now operates entirely from the modern installer and SQL definitions supplied with each release.

🧱 What Is Changing
We will be removing the following legacy directories from upcoming releases:
/core/upgrade/versions/pre_2.0.10/
/core/upgrade/versions/pre_3.0.0/
/core/upgrade/versions/pre_4.0.0/
/core/upgrade/versions/pre_5.0.0/
/core/upgrade/versions/pre_6.0.0/
/core/upgrade/versions/pre_7.0.0/
/core/upgrade/versions/pre_7.6/

These folders contain outdated migration scripts for database structures that are no longer used. They have been fully replaced by the modern schema included in the current GeoCoreMax installer.

✅ What This Means for You
• No action is required if your site is running GeoCoreMax version 7.6 or newer.
• Fresh installations will continue to build directly from the latest /setup/ installer.
• Upgrades from any supported version will still run normally, as the upgrade process only executes scripts newer than your current version.
• Removing these folders will not affect your data, listings, or addon functionality.

⚙️ Why We Are Doing This
• To reduce unnecessary code weight and simplify the file structure.
• To remove deprecated PHP and database syntax that is no longer compatible with modern servers.
• To make future updates faster and more reliable.
• To maintain a cleaner, more efficient GeoCoreMax codebase.

📦 Summary
Starting with GeoCoreMax version 20.0, all upgrade directories for versions before 7.6 will be permanently removed from the distribution. This change will not affect any modern installation or upgrade path.

Thank you for your continued support and for helping us keep GeoCoreMax modern, secure, and easier to maintain.
